LONDON, ENGLAND (4th July 2024) — From their GP practice office in East London, Healthtech-1 is live in 10% of England’s GP practices and has plans to fix primary care by dedicating £2.7m seed raise.
A mission to give NHS staff one less task 💙
Within the bustle of East London, inside a GP practice in Stratford lives Healthtech-1.
In 2021, school best friends Pete Huang and Raj Kohli turned a project helping Raj’s parents digitise their GP practice during pandemic into a mission to tackle one of the NHS’ biggest challenges: admin work.
2 in every 100 working people in England are NHS admin staff (1) who are doing the unseen but deeply important work that keeps the NHS ticking. But 1 in 7 NHS staff are applying for non-NHS jobs (2). With Healthtech-1, staff have one less task and patients receive faster and safer care.
The platform already automates two of the most error-prone manual tasks: New Patient Registrations completed by registration clerks and Lab Report Filing completed by doctors.
In April last year, 40 practices took a punt on Healthtech-1, and today 704 practices are live (over 10% of the nation). The team are aiming at being live in >90% of the market by the end of 2025.
Pete and Raj worked as admin staff themselves, experiencing the pain of completing hundreds of registrations manually for Stratford Village Surgery before building their product. And now every new member of their team completes a week working on the front desk, appreciating life as an NHS staff member.
Supported by the NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Program (3) and bootstrapped for the first two years, Healthtech-1 has recruited an incredible team of engineers, NHS doctors, and former founders on a mission to rip admin out of the experience of being a healthcare worker.

There's a high chance you, or someone you know, has used the registration form powered by Healthtech-1. Practices benefit from 15 minutes in staff time saved per registration. Patients benefit from same day registrations.
As one patient puts it, "To register for a new doctors within a couple of hours is fantastic”.
Patients rate the Healthtech-1 registration process 9.8/10 on average and leave comments like: "Very warm and friendly, and handling everything online is so useful!", "Cannot believe how quick the registration happened", and "Really happy with the communication and it was extremely easy to register".
Human-error processing repetitive admin are gone with automation resulting in a 500% increase in coded registration data for practices. Data which GP practices use to set the patient up for success (4). The team has developed the product to now comfortably automate >95% of a practice’s registration workload.
Practices see real-time insights into the data behind registrations and can easily manage their registrations through Healthtech-1's Hub.

The new Health Secretary Wes Streeting told Wired, “[the NHS is] an analog system in a digital age.” (6) and Labour’s manifesto acknowledged that: “a system reliant on pagers and fax machines is not fit for this decade let alone the next” (7).
The new Government’s vision of better access and capacity matches the reality Healthtech-1 is already making possible for GP practices across the country.
Over the last few months, Healthtech-1’s team has been building out their second product, Automated Lab Reports. Right now, they can automate about 20% of normal and abnormal results a GP practice receives. They’ve automated 20,975 across 31 practices to date.
If the team were to bring the lab report product to 46% of England's practices and automate 50% of a practice’s results, they would be adding the equivalent of 2 million appointments a year (8).
As they grow to reach the nation, the team are dedicating their £2.7m seed raise (9) to the tough problem of fixing primary care with tech.
While many companies speculate on AI and share flash visions for the future of tech in the NHS, Co-founder Pete says: “The future of healthcare will be AI enabled. We're focused on building core parts of the patient's healthcare journey and solving issues NHS staff face, starting from the very first touch point with a GP practice. Then we can turn on AI capabilities with the flick of switch."
